iPads for iPhiles and iPhobes: Differentiating PD for Technology Integration

Differentiation may be the current buzzword for it, but whatever term we use, we all know that it is no longer enough to pursue a single method of teaching and learning in today’s classrooms. Yet as soon as teachers and administrators offer Professional Development, we typically ask teachers to Sit and Get messages about the importance of avoiding Sit and Get strategies in our own classrooms! This session will explore ways to develop a differentiated PD model, one that recognizes the need to accommodate a wide range of learning styles and to support your faculty’s varying skills and experience with technology integration. At the heart of differentiated PD is the assumption that teaching and learning, and not the technology itself, must form the core of all of our continuing education programming and that meaningful technology integration requires far more than dressing up the factory model wolf in digital sheep’s clothing. Participants will leave the session with numerous practical examples of blended and differentiated PD models as well as with a wealth of suggestions about how to begin transforming PD organically and/or District-wide at home.
